1. Take a Flight to Tibet

Nowadays, there are several big cities having non-stop flights to Lhasa, such as Beijing, Shanghai, Xian, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Chongqing, Xining and Shangri-La in China, and Kathmandu in Nepal.

Just spending three hours in taking flights to Lhasa, you will experience the altitude ascending from hundreds of meters to over 3600 meters, which probably make you get altitude sickness on arrival. So it will take these visitors 2 or 3 days to acclimatize themselves to high altitude in Lhasa.

A lot of people still think that taking the train to Tibet is the best way to get acclimatized to Lhasa’s high altitude. They think the railway to Tibet is ascending gradually which will be benefit for their acclimatization.

Unfortunately, the railway running to Xining is under 1524m altitude, which is too low to be useful for acclimatization. However, visitors need to spend one day on these railways whether from Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu. After over 24-hour journey, the train begins to climb into more serious altitude, and visitors will spend the next 10 hours reaching Golmud. This part of the climbing is actually high enough and gradual enough to help you begin to acclimate to higher altitude.

In addition, the natural landscapes along the Qinghai-Tibet railway is very beautiful.
