Editor’s Note: Seramina is a virtual Beijing travel guide, and she has been traveling and staying in almost all cities and areas of China. Want to see the best of China? Come with her.

  • Whether or not confused by the numerous itineraries provided by the online travel agencies?
  • Wasting too much time to compare and select the preferred one?

You are not alone to feel that way, so did I before planning my first-time Beijing tour. Here, I’m going to walk you through the golden route, so that you will never feel puzzled any more even though with a large choice.

Beijing is an extremely fascinating city and is rich in culture and history. Everywhere you see are historical wonders surrounded by beautiful landscape. Its magnificence and charm are known to the world.

Here are the top 10 scenic spots that must be included in a Beijing tour (sorted by tourist popularity): Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, Badaling Great Wall, Temple of Heaven, Summer Palace, Ming Tombs, Beijing Hutong, Beihai Park, Yonghe Lamasery, and Olympic Green. Prefer to see more? Read the top 25 rated things to do in Beijing.

Day 1 and Day 2 will tour the Beijing essence.

Day 1: Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven, Summer Palace

Since it is summer and the daytime is longer, you should wake up earlier than usual. It is going to a heavy day with a lot of walking, so wear comfortable shoes and clothes, bring you with some Chocolate and energy drinks, and not miss your breakfast!

Take the subway line 1 or 2, or take a bus (there are numerous buses getting there, just check the signs), and get off at Tiananmen west or east station.

Tiananmen Square is the heart and symbol of Beijing and is the biggest square in the world as well. It can hold one million people for public celebration or gathering. On the west of Tiananmen Square is the Great Hall of the People, the meeting place of national people’s congress of China. There are Monument to the People’s Heroes and Chairman Mao’s Mausoleum on the south. On the east of Tiananmen Square is The National Museum of China, and visiting the exhibition is like reading concise China General History. (Half an hour is enough!)

Then move on to the Imperial Palace from the Tiananmen gate. Known as the Forbidden City, it is the largest and best-preserved ancient imperial palaces of the world with 500 years history. You will be amazed by the grandness and majesty of the wonder. Just walking around everywhere, as every corner is a work of art. Forbidden City is the highlight of today’s tour, and the following four hours are yours.

Lunch time! Need to eliminate fatigue and refresh yourself with tasty foods and good coffee! Beijing Hotel is a good choice.

After a lunch rest, take the express bus no. 1 proceed to the Temple of Heaven. It is the place where the Emperors prayed for peace and harvest, and used as a complex of sacrificial buildings for Ming and Qing emperors. One hour to experience the fabulous complex.

Temple of Heaven

Three principle structures lie along the primary north-south axis of the Temple of Heaven complex.

Then it is time for the Summer Palace visit. Take bus no 826 at Tianan Bus Station to there. It is the largest imperial garden, and was originally a royal garden and a temporary dwelling palace for emperors of Qing Dynasty.

17 Arch Bridge of Summer Palace

17 Arch Birdge links the eastern edge of Kunming Lake with the Dragon King Temple.

Back to your hotel, take a shower, and prepare for a relaxing and enjoyable nightlife tour.

Peking duck has the reputation of being the most delicious food Beijing has to offer. Quan Ju De Restaurant is the best place that offers the best Peking duck. It has outlets at Qianmen, Hepingmen and Wangfujing. Choose one near your hotel and to your convenience.

After dinner, go straight to the Houhai lake area that you must have heard of it before. There are many bars, and here I recommend the Garret lounge bar. The first thing that was appealing to me was the couches and the laid back atmosphere. Relaxing with cold ones and old English music! What a life!

PS:

  • Never close to the Chinese girls who invite you, because they will probably trap you.
  • Not stay too late because tomorrow is much more exciting and you need sleep off today’s fatigue.
  • The itinerary is suitable for the one who has limited time in Beijing. If you are not pressed for time, you can choose one sight from Summer Palace and Temple of Heaven.

(To be continued)

Welcome to Hong Kong, the Pearl of Orient where East meets West! If you like Lantau Island and are not in a rush in going to places as I understand from your other posts that you’ve been to the City many times, stay in the Silvermine Bay Hotel located in Silvermine Bay of Lantau. It has the cheapest rate in town, around US$50 per night, however there’s no road that connects to Silvermine Bay from the Airport. You’ve to take the shuttle bus or MTR to Central then catch a ferry from the Central Pier right outside IFC Building. The ferry trip takes about 20 minutes, a very nice ride if you like the sea and not in a rush.

I need to say, as much as I enjoyed reading what you had to say, I couldnt help but lose interest after a while. Its as if you had a fantastic grasp on the subject matter, but you forgot to include your readers. Perhaps you should consider this from more than one angle. Or maybe you should not generalise so very much. It’s better if you think about what others might have to say rather than just going for a gut reaction to the matter. Think about adjusting your own thought process and giving other people who might go through this the benefit of the doubt.
