Jiuzhaigou, literally meaning “Nine Village Valley”, is the home to nine Tibetan Villages. Listed as World Cultural Heritage in 1992, Jiuzhaigou is famous for its beautiful water: multi-level waterfalls and colorful lakes. Jiuzhaigou is located in Jiuzhaigou County of the Aba Tibetan Qiang Autonomous Prefecture in Sichuan Province, around 436km north of Chengdu, Sichuan Province.

Another natural valley is Huanglong, which literally means “Yellow Dragon” in Chinese. It is famous for Huanglonggou and waterfalls and hot springs. Huanglong is located 90km away from Jiuzhaigou, the weather is same to Jiuzhaigou’s.

Jiuzhaigou has three valleys naturally formed in a “Y” shape: Rize Valley (18km), Zechawa Valley (17km), Shuzheng Valley(15km). There are 17 waterfall groups, 47 springs and 114 lakes in Jiuzhaigou.

In Spring

Jiuzhaigou’s spring is from March till the end of May. As spring approaches, the ice and snow melt, water raised, mountain flowers blossomed everywhere and distant mountains silhouetted against the fairy-tale world of snow. Bring your sunglasses and sunblock, because big temperature between day and night, you need to wear winter clothes in the evening.

Summer starts from June and ends in August. The green dripping Nongyin among the colorful Haizi, combing the green water and plants in water, silver curtain-like falls, expresses the best time for taking photos after suddenly rain.

In Autumn

Autumn is the season of Jiuzhaigou’s most brilliant, colorful spot. The sky is bright and clear. The colorful leaves and tourists are reflected on the clear lakes and fallen leaves are floating on the surface of water. You will be surprised by the masterpiece by nature world.

The temperature is changeable in autumn. So I suggest you still need to bring winter clothes like down jackets.

Jiuzhaigou’s winter, from mid-November to mid-March, is particularly quiet, especially full of poetic. The mountains are covered by snow and turns in to pure white world. The blue lake ice in the sunrise and sunset is changing its color due to the change of the temperature.

It is a low season to trek Jiuzhaigou, so you can save money if you go there in winter.
