The Great Wall, the world’s largest historical site, is referred to Wanli Changcheng in Mandarin. 1. Badaling Great Wall

Badaling Great Wall is the most representative part of the Great Wall of China in Beijing and the most visited section. It is located in Yanqing County, about 80km away from Beijing downtown. The Great Wall is a symbol of ancient Chinese civilization and a world-renowned fortification. The sites: Wangjing Stone, Fork City, Ancient Cannons, Pass City, City Wall, Watchtowers, China Great Wall Museum, etc.

2. Mutianyu Great Wall

Mutianyu Great Wall (慕田峪长城) is one section of Great Wall of China in Beijing. Located in Huairou County, about 85 km away from Beijing downtown, the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall enjoys a long history and is a good choice for those who want to see a restored section of the Wall, which is more fun and less crowed than Badaling Great Wall, and not as far as Simatai or Jinshanling.
Ticket: 45 yuan for adult; 25 yuan for student

3. Simatai Great Wall

Somewhat tamed after a series of deaths led to the closing of its most dangerous stretch, Simatai nevertheless remains one of the best options for those who want more of a challenge from the Great Wall. The most harrowing portion, steep and unrestored, is on the east (right) side of the Miyun Reservoir.

4. Jinshanling Great Wall

Located in Hebei Province, Jinshanling Great Wall is the least visited and least spoiled of the Wall sections listed in this section. It is 10km east of Gubeikou, through which Qing royalty passed on the way to their summer retreat at Chengde. The Wall here is in good condition, as it was after 1570 rebuild by the outstanding general, Qijiguang. Bricks are smaller, reflecting advances in wall-building technique. The Wall features unusual circular towers and elaborate defensive walls leading up to towers.

5. Juyongguan Great Wall

Juyongguan Great Wall is the section of Great Wall before you get to the madness of Badaling Great Wall, about 60km away from Beijing downtown. It is the relatively peaceful stretch of the Wall and the most conveniently accessed section of the Wall. Climbing the steep section to the left offers marvelous views of Badaling, snaking up the mountains to the north, and south toward Beijing.

6. Gubeikou Great Wall

Located along the Yanshan Mountain range in the northeast of Miyun County, between Shanhaiguan Pass and Juyongguan Pass about 100km to Beijing, south of the hill country of Panlong Montain and Wohu Mountain, Gubeikou Great Wall occupies a strategically important location which is difficult to access.
Ticket: 34 yuan
Opening time: 08:00-17:00 on weekdays; 07:30-17:30 at weekends and Chinese holidays
Hiking: 14 kilometers

7. Huanghuacheng Great Wall

Located at Jiuduhe Town, Huairou District, about 65km away from Beijing downtown. This section at 10,800 meters long is a resort with mountains, lakes and the ancient wall. Going to Huanghuacheng Great Wall, you have four things to do at least: first, you should take photos; second, go to visit the chestnut garden under the wall; third, climb up the steepest section; forth, look at Yaoziyu Castle.

8. Jiankou Great Wall

This section is for serious hikers only. Startiing at Xinzhaizi Village where the road dead-ends into a parking lot, following the trail up to the Wall. Turn left once you reach the wall, and prepare yourself for an intense 5-hour hike. The tallest watchtower in the distance is Jiankou, and just before you reach it, there is a turnoff point that is marked by a flat, paved section of the Wall that leads you back down to the road.
