On Friday, under rare unpolluted sky, the first ladies of the world’s two biggest countries, Michelle Obama and her Chinese counterpart Peng Liyuan, embarked on a lightning tour of the imperial residence. They strode through the Hall of Supreme Harmony, checked out the Hall of Preserving Harmony and admired a golden throne off-limits to most tourists.

The Forbidden City is the Beijing’s former imperial palace, which displays an extraordinarily harmonious balance between buildings and open space within a more or less symmetrical layout. Touring this popular tourist site of Beijing indicates that Michelle knows about China and Chinese culture. The reason that Michelle took China tour this time is hoping to promote cultural exchanges between the US and China.

On Sunday, Michelle and her daughters, Malia and Sasha, walked along the Mutianyu stretch of the wall and enjoyed the breathtaking views of the mountains around them. They huddled together for a sweet photo which was captured by Michelle’s team.
