1. Brief introduction

Fragrant Hill Park ( also named the Xiangshan / Xiangshan Hill ) is located in the east part of western hills, Haidian District, Beijing. The most spectacular natural scenery is, when autumn arrives, the red tree leaves over the mountains, especially maple leaves, . So far, the park get good reviews from international visitors. 2. Four Routes to watch red leaves

South route: East Gate – Tranquility Greet Lake ( Jingcui Lake ) – Shuangqing Villa – Fragrant Temple – Incense Burner Peak – Heshun Gate – hill top
North route: Spectacles Lake ( Yanjing Lake ) – Reading of Reading Heart ( Jianxin Zhai) – Bright Temple ( Zhao Miao)
Route 3: East Gate – Yuhua Xiu – Xiangwu Ku – hill top; it is a comfortable tour suitable for family together.
Route 4: North Gate – take a cable – hill top; by cable, you can reach to the hill top nearly about 25 minutes.
On the top of hill, you will have a bird-eye view of the red leaves in the park.

3. Best place in the park to watch red leaves

1) Tranquility Greean Lake ( Jingcui Lake )
The lake is near to the east gate, about 5 minutes by walking. It is surrounded by hills in three directions. Standing on the back, you can get a good view of red leaves on the hills, lakes and reflection in the water.

2) Fragrant Hills Temple ( Xiangshan Temple )
The temple is in the south foot of hill, showing the origin of Fragrant Hill’s culture.

3) Heshun Gate
It is on the hillside of south hill, about 300m above the ground. Here is the close to the most red leave trees.

4) Yuhua Xiu
Yuhua Xiu is a sightseeing flat area, with broad field of view, about 20 minutes walking from the east gate.

5) Xiangwu Ku ( literally Fragrant Mist Cave )
It is on the hillside with broad field of view , showing classic garden culture.

4. Other attractions in the park

Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall
The hall was a temple and then got its name because the coffin of Mr. Sun Yat-sen was once placed here before being transferred to Nanjing.

Zhisong Park
It is located in the west of the main visiting artery, and over 100 ancient pine tees are living there.

Shuangqing Villa
It is a quiet courtyard built in 1917 due to the flood in Heibei province. Chairman Mao once lived here before moving to Zhongnanhai.

5. Travel Tips

Cable car in the park
The cable way is built between the north gate of the park and and the top of hill ( censer peak, also named Xianglufeng and meaning place is “devilishly hard to achieve”). There are 3 stops at the foot, middle and top of the hill, and the single way price for person is RMB60 yuan.

Riding a bike to climb the hill
It is very popular to ride a bike to climb the hill. Bicycle lovers can ride to climb the hill from the ascending circling highway. This will be a different experience of cycling in Beijing.

How to get there
By bus: take the bus No. 698, 714, 630, Special line 5, 360, 318, 331, 854, 505, 634, 696 and get off at Xiangshan stop.
By subway: take the subway line 2 and get off at Xizhimen Stop, then take the No. 360 bus and get to Xiangshan Park.
OR take the subway line 4 and get off at Beigongmen Stop, then take the bus No. 331 or 696 and get to Xiangshan Park.
By taxi: The cost is about RMB 80 yuan, the transportation of Beijing is complex, so do remember to bargain with the taxi driver before getting on the taxi.
