News: According to the Beijing Morning Post, the Palace Museum, also known as the Forbidden City, will open its more areas to the public this year and the museum will remain open into the evening.
From the January of 2013, the Palace Museum started to close the museum on each Monday afternoon, and then from the January of 2014, the Museum started to close the museum on the whole Monday of each week, in order to renovate the ancient buildings and preserve the relic collections.
Nowadays, the measure has received a good effect. The museum will open 65% to visitors after its renovation work is completed, and new areas include the Palace of Benevolent Peace, Shoukang Palace, Duan Gate, Yanchi Tower of Wu Gate and the city of Donghua Gate.
But according to the reports, only the Duan Gate digital exhibition hall and pedestrian streets outside Shenwu Gate will open into the evening. The digital exhibition will enable visitors to see the whole picture of the Forbidden City without having to enter the museum. The construction of pedestrian streets will soon be completed on the east and west sides of Shenwu Gate Square, where books and products related to the Forbidden City will be sold.
