The Second “Dangdang” trolley sightseeing route has been put into use to carry tourists through iconic downtown attractions, after Beijing introduced the vintage vehicles last September.
The10-kilometer-long ring route and stops (from left to right): Qianmen – Tiananmen Square East – Tiananmen West – Zhongshan Park West Gate – the Palace Museum West Gate – Beihai Park, The Palace Museum, Beichizi North – the Palace Museum East Gate – Donganmen Dajie West, Beijing APM, Wangfujing North, Tiananmen East, Tiananmen Square West and Qianmen.
Ticket fee: 15 yuan for one way; 10 yuan by transportation IC card
Running time: 08:00 – 17:00 (peak season: from May to September); 08:30 – 17:00 (off season: from October to April).
The buses are scheduled for every five to ten minutes.
Passengers on each trolley will be accompanied by a tour guide, introducing scenic spots and historical sites in both Chinese and English.
Taking the trolleys and stopping at the major stops, tourists can not personally experience the Vintage Trolley, but also visit Qianmen, Tian’anmen and the Palace Museum (the Forbidden City).
The new ten trolleys are set to serve the new line, powered with electricity, and equipped with WiFi, air purification and spacious seats. It is easy to distinguish the Trolleys because they were painted in bright colors. They are replicas of those used in Beijing from 1924 to 1966, when the trolley drivers had to ring copper bells as horns to alert pedestrians, so the Beijingers started to call the trolleys as “Dangdang” vehicles.
