According to the updated news, Beijing Opera Troupe will stage a series of 44 classic Peking Opera (Jinju, 京剧) performance at Mei Lanfang Grand Theatre between January 1 and March 16 in 2015, to mark the 60th anniversary of China National Peking Opera Company.

As is known to all, Peking Opera is one of the major cultural attractions in China, and one of China’s five Dramas, incl. Pekiing Opera, Shaoxing Opera, Huangmei Opera, Pingju, Henan Opera. It represents the finest combination of music, vocal performance, mime, dance and acrobatics. With over a history of 200 years, Peking Opera developed from absorbing many other dramatic forms, mostly from the local drama “Huiban” which was popular in China during 18th century.

Mei Lanfang Grand Theatre

The Mei Lanfang Grand Theatre (Chinese Name: 梅兰芳大剧院) was built at 1894, and had the 120th anniversary of his birthday in 2015. It was named after the lat Mei Lanfang, a brilliant Peking Opera artist.

The Theatre is a fan-shaped building with a stylish stell and glass structure. The interior features some key ingredients in traditional Chinese architectures – the magnificent bright red columns and walls, which are often seen in royal palaces.
