Wu Zhen, located at the north of Tongxiang city, Zhejiang Province, about 150 kilometers away from Shanghai. With a history of over 1,300 years, it plays a very important part in waterway transport, as a part of the Beijing-Hang Grand Canal.

In Wu Zhen, the waterways act as streets, while riverbanks are markets. Boats are the main vehicle. When visiting Wu Zhen on the boat, you will find out all old building along the river bank near to the water, locals and tourists chatting on the boat, and the bustle of traders peddle crying out for saling their goods, which are the original picture of Chinese ancient times.

Apart from its layout wonders, Wu Zhen is also famous for its cultural landscapes. The well-preserved buildings mainly embody the architectural style of Qing dynasty and the Minguo period (1912 – 1949). Mao Dun, an outstanding modern Chinese writer, was born here and his masterpiece, “The Lin’s Shop”, describes vividly the life here. There are a lot of famous attractions, such as Fanglu Pavilion, Bridge in Bridge, Xiu Zhen Guan, Ancient Stage and folk’s houses.

How to get to Wu Zhen?

By bus:
There are buses to Wu Zhen Bus Station from Shanghai South Railway Station Long Distance Bus Station, Suzhou South Bus Station, Suzhou North Square Bus Station and Hangzhou Passenger Transport Central Bus Station.

By train:
It is very convenient and cheap by train from Shanghai, Suzhou and Hangzhou. There are 17 G Trains ( Gaotie ) and 14 D Train ( Dongche ) each day from Shanghai Hongqiao Train Station to Tongxiang Train Station. There are 4 G Trains and 7 G Trans each day from Suzhou Train Station to Tongxiang Train Station. There are 20 G Trains and 14 D Trains from Hangzhou to Tongxiang.
